The Queen

LAndon Life

We recently had LAndon Life bloggers, Laura Almond and Lawrence Archer come to stay with us here at The Queen. It was a great honour to have them write about not only their food experience but also their night in one of our three shepherds huts!

"Now not only does The Queen offer great food they’ve just opened a couple of Shepherd’s huts in the back garden for a spot of glamping. Perfect for couples and of course friends who want a weekend away in Suffolk. Having just come back from Glastonbury it was absolute luxury to be staying in such beautiful huts, complete with comfy double bed, soft bedsheets, electric lights and plug sockets. Oh and of course the use of clean showers and toilets a stone’s throw away.At the moment they just have three but the plan is to expand further and add a few more. All the huts are built by a local craftsman called Julian Faithfull, the amount of detail that goes into them is just incredible. It was a great nights sleep, waking up to the birds singing was rather blissful."

Our first wedding dinner!

We are very excited to tell you about our first wedding dinner that we hosted here on Sunday the 3rd of July.

It was rather a late request so it was all hands to the pump to get everything ready for the big occasion! A Vegan, gluten intolerant bride posed some what of a challenge but we were up for it. Two days to prepare a new menu and come up with a wedding cake.........

I have to say it couldn't have gone any better! A big well done to all the staff who helped that day, we even had kitchen staff out making decorations and preparing the table!

We must say a huge thank you to Fiona Murphy at MooMoo cakes (http://www.moomoocakes.co.uk/) who came up with a delicious wedding cake at the very last minute. It looked stunning and tasted sublime.

More from the "Glamper Vans"

On Thursday the 30th of June we oficially launched our new "Glamper Vans". We were so pleased to see everyone there and show you all around. Thank you very much to everyone who attended, even if it did rain a little! We even made it into the paper!

Recent reviews of our Glamper Vans on Air BnB have been great as well. We're so excited to all of our new guests, they are getting very popular so please do book in advnace to avoid disappointment as it is "wedding season"!

My girlfriend and I stayed in one of the shepherd cabins (Beatrix) in the field behind the The Queen pub. I have to say it was immaculately presented, clean and well built. The food available from the pub was the best I've ever had from a pub and was on par with many of the top restaurants in London I've visited. Alex the head chef does an excellent job and is happy to come and speak to diners about his restaurant and the low mileage of the food. All the food is local, the lamb we had on one evening was from the field opposite. It doesn't get more local than that. I highly recommend staying here as an alternative to a hotel or standard bed and breakfast. It's unique and you will not be disappointed.

June 2016

I was delighted by both the caravan, the pub and particularly my hosts. The caravan was excellent; comfortable, clean, stylish. Great double bed. Harriet was extremely welcoming and she and her brother run a wonderful pub in the Queen. I would very happily return.

June 2016

One of the nicest and coziest Airbnb experiences I've ever experienced! The caravans are decorated beautifully and have easy access to bathrooms and showers. We ate at the pub out front, which served delicious food. Our hosts were very welcoming and warm, and were extremely helpful as we tried to figure out transport. I can't recommend The Cluster highly enough.

First Guests in the "Glamper Vans"

We welcomed our first guests over the bank holiday weekend, who brought with them some glorious weather. Valentin and Daria, with son and dog in tow, stayed in Beatrice for 2 nights and reported to have had a great nights sleep!

The "Glamper Vans" are starting to get very busy with 1 or 2 reservations most weekends now so if you are thinking of booking one please do so early to avoid disappointment!

We can provide customised packages for anniversaries, birthdays, weddings etc, making that weekend away just that little bit more special.

Village Fete and Beer Festival

On the 18th of June we will be holding the annual village fete here at The Queen. It has become a tradition to hold it here at the pub over the years and we look forward to welcoming it again this year and to putting our own spin on the day.

As well as the fete, we will be holding a beer festival showcasing some of Adnams Finest and some other guest ales/larger. We will also be having a bbq instead of serving our usual Saturday Lunch menu. Here's hoping the weather holds up!

International Gin Day

We here at The Queen, love our Gins and so, to help celebrate International Gin Day on the 11th of June, we are going to be bringing out a new, Gin inspired, cocktail menu, which will be available to sample all weekend! We're rather excited about it and we hope you will be too. Perhaps it will even be The Bees Knees.............

The Bees Knees:

The Bee’s Knees, a sweet, citrus cocktail, lives up to its moniker, and will no doubt leave you buzzing too. This is one to sip on a warm summers evening (we can only hope...).

50ml Gin

2 teaspoons honey

20ml fresh lemon juice

20ml fresh orange juice

New kitchen garden & "Glamper Vans"

"The cluster" at the Queen is nestled behind our newly planted Kitchen garden

What's on this February

January is drawing to an end and is high time we let you know what we are planning for the next month at The Queen.

First up this month is Shrove Tuesday! We will be offering our £5 pancake dish all day on the 9th as our way to celebrate. To catch this limited opportunity to have pancakes for breakfast, lunch and dinner, make sure you come down between 8-11am,12-2:30pm, & 6-9pm while the kitchen is still open!

Our £5 Pancakes

Next on the schedule is our very first pub quiz! We are doing this in aid of Annie's Challenge; a family run charity raising money for brain cancers. This includes a few stimulating rounds of trivia, a full roast, and a dessert. In terms of availability, we are able to accommodate 1 table/ team of 8 and 8 tables/ teams of 6. Tickets cost £15 per head for food and entrance. Kick off is at 7pm.

Don't forget Valentines Day! This year the 14th falls on a Sunday, which normally means food service between 12pm-6pm. We have made a few changes this Sunday as we will now be serving lunch between 12pm- 3pm, and dinner between 6pm-9pm. So, if you were looking for a romantic evening with your loved one, The Queen is open! You can book online or by giving us a call.

Do not despair if you missed our tasting menu this Christmas, because we are doing it again! On Thursday the 25th of February we will be serving up a 6 course meal with 6 well chosen wines from our wine list. This allows us to showcase all the fresh produce that will be coming our way this spring, and get you in the mood for the new season. Tickets cost £50 per head to cover both food and drink.

First Taster Menu at The Queen

For the next two weeks we have a special guest visiting us at The Queen. Sean Blake, owner of the pop up 'Sean's Bar' in Brixton, and executive bar manager for Russell Norman, will be coming to showcase his front of house skills before moving on to his next adventure in the new year.

Sean will be helping us out behind the bar from the 4th till the 20th of December, and we hope you are as excited as we are to try his amazing cocktails.

Sean's visit has given us the perfect opportunity to finally get the ball rolling with the tasting menu events we have long been promising.

So, on the 10th and 17th of December (both Thursdays) we will be hosting our very first tasting menu evenings.

Each evening will be taken up by 6 courses, accompanied by 3 selected wines, and 3 of Sean's cocktails. Sean will be giving a small talk about each of his choices and why it works well with the dish.

Tickets cost £50 per head

Please contact info@thequeenatbrandeston.co.uk if you are interested in this gastronomic experience.

Winter is here!

As Christmas is now only a month away, it seems a fitting time to put rumors at bay and finalize our plans. There will be a few changes at The Queen this Christmas but you will be glad to hear that we are definitely open for business!

From Christmas Eve to Boxing Day the kitchen is closed, but the bar will be open.

Christmas Day Drinks!

Many of you have been asking about this one, and yes we will be opening for the traditional pre-lunch beverage. The doors open from 11am - 2pm.

From the 27th of December to New Years Day the kitchen will be open again for a range of soups and stew as opposed to the usual menus. This is to allow the chefs some recuperation time before the new menu for the new year.

Don't forget to come down for some carols on the 16th of December. You wouldn't want to miss the Brandeston village lights being turned on or the local carol singers at The Queen.

We cannot wait for our first Christmas in Brandeston and we hope you come and enjoy the season with us.

our first halloween at the queen

Just a quick post to say thank you to everyone who came down to celebrate halloween with us on Saturday. We were incredibly impressed by everyone's commitment to the cause (even if one of our waitresses was almost lost to a rabid zombie behind the bottle bins!).

To mark our appreciation we have decided to share a few of our favourite photographs from the night for you all to enjoy.

Next stop, Christmas!

All photographs were permitted by the subject or their adult supervisor.

Live Scottish, Irish & Contemporary Folk

On Thursday 10th September we are lucky enough to be joined by Marie's Wedding for a night of unforgettable live music.

The first half of the set starts at 19:30 and will accompany your meal with some soothing acoustic Folk music. The second half on the other hand, promises for something a little different for everyone to enjoy, and we cannot wait to see what dance moves you all have to offer!

If that doesn't sound exciting enough, we will be giving away some Scottish influenced bar snacks to get you in the mood.

See you on Thursday!

Postponement

As the original opening date looms, we have encountered a few set backs. Unfortunately the locals' night and official opening date will need to be postponed as a result.

Luckily this will only be a few days and the wait will not be very long, so do not despair! The new dates are:

Locals' night: 29th July 2015

Official opening: 31st July 2015

We hope to see you all very soon!

We're in!

As of Monday the 13th of July we are officially moving into The Queen and we can't wait! Unfortunately we will be closed for business until the 28th in order to make a few changes to the interior and get some planting done in the garden. As many of you are already aware, this is the start of many changes to improve The Queen and your dining/ drinking experience.

For all of you who live locally, we will be hosting an evening just for you on Saturday the 25th of July. This includes a range of bar snacks prepared in the kitchen, and a wide selection of drinks at the bar. All the food provided is free of charge, but there is a charity box should you wish to contribute. All proceeds from the night will go to the Alzheimer's Society based in Suffolk. The doors will be open from 5pm onwards, so clear your schedule!

If you would like to book in advance, the restaurant will be fully operational from Tuesday the 28th of July. Please give us a call or book online from Friday the 17th to reserve a table.
